A 40 gallon electric tank is $1,700 plus HST installed, like-for-like. A 50 gallon power-vented gas tank is $2,900. Both include a new mixing valve.
Replacing a tank with a tankless unit runs $4,600 to $5,650 plus HST, depending on the size. Swapping an existing tankless is less, $3,300 to $4,500, because the venting and gas are already there.
Yes. Haul-away of the old water heater is included.
Yes, on tank water heaters. An upgraded anode extends the manufacturer warranty to 8 years for $200 or 10 years for $400. It must be bought at the time of sale.
Many homes do, especially with a check valve or pressure-reducing valve on the main. Adding one is $600, and a 4.4 gallon tank suits any water heater up to 60 gallons.
Some. In Kitchener, the City of Kitchener gives a $500 on-bill credit when a gas water heater is replaced with an ENERGY STAR condensing model. A standard tank-for-tank swap usually does not qualify. See our rebates page for current programs and the rules.
